BASEd move by Coinbase towards Ethereum scaling.
L2 wars takes a thrilling turn as a new player enters the rumble. Yesterday, coinbase announced its own layer2 ‘BASE’ that will enter the space to scale the ethereum blockchain. They are using the optimism stack to build.Â
It’s an interesting move by coinbase as they already have a distribution of 110 million users interacting with coinbase products. This will propel the network effects & drive network’s adoption. There is only one other blockchain project that has done this in the past: Binance.
The L2 war will get interesting as more players enter the space and follow different approaches: PoS, Optimistic & zk Rollups, zkEVM & others. It will be exciting to see which approach gets more adoption, but in the end, ethereum wins.
